Jason D'Amico working as a barista
Coffee

I have spent two stints working as a barista: one in the summer of 2019 at Coffee By Design in Freeport, Maine and the other in the summer of 2023 at HiFi Donuts and Coffee in Portland, Maine. Through each experience, I have developed a love for coffee and crafting specialty drinks that drives me to explore coffee shops in cities I visit in search of the best espresso drinks. I also have grown to love the atmosphere of coffee shops and find them fun to visit both when I need to get good work done and during my days off. My go-to drink is a cappuccino: to me, it is the perfect combination of steamed milk, foam and espresso.

Soccer

I played soccer in high school and remain engaged in the sport by playing with my friends and keeping up with the English Premier League. I followed the Premier League closely in high school and my interest in the league was rejuvenated following my study abroad experience in England in the fall of 2022. While I am pictured here at a Manchester City match, my favorite team is Fulham FC, who are based in southwest London: I try to catch as many Fulham matches on TV as I can and find watch the team a great way for me to unwind on the weekends.

Social Justice

I maintain a commitment to social justice and activism in the communities that I am a part of, which shapes both the type media I consume and how I spend my free time. When I was in high school, I volunteered with Maine Boys to Men, a nonprofit organization dedicated to gender-based violence prevention by providing training to Maine students about healthy gender expression. I initially found the organization through being a participant in their programs, in which I found a voice and passion that stuck with me and pushed me to help others connect with healthy gender expression.

Once I got to college, I founded a club at my college named A More Equitable Union, which works to create a more inclusive and welcoming campus community for people of all identities. Through this organization, I have expanded my work within social justice settings to include a broader range of topics that I am passionate about. We hold student-led discussions about topics on campus or in popular culture related to our mission, and we also hold larger events with the campus community.
